We went on an unguided kayak trip through the mangrove lagoon. It's very reasonably priced and relaxing. Cas Cay is beautiful. Wear water shoes that you can also do some light hiking in (if that's your thing). There's a trail across the island with some beautiful views.
As a group of 4 adult couples with a love of kayaking, we recently booked the self-guided 4-hour tour. The paddle through the mangroves was lovely, and the paddling was easy and enjoyable. The staff were helpful and polite both on our way out and the return.
The staff was great in helping us choose gear for our different needs. The whole experience was stress-free and enjoyable.
What can I expect during a self-guided paddle through the Mangrove Lagoon?
You’ll enjoy a peaceful, flexible kayaking experience in one of St. Thomas’s most unique ecosystems. Expect to see marine life, birds, and the natural beauty of the mangroves. While this is a self-guided tour, our staff is available to offer orientation, safety guidance, and route suggestions to enhance your adventure.
What will we see?
In our St. Thomas Mangrove Lagoon, you will kayak among the many small islands of the unique Inner Mangrove Lagoon. You may see a variety of birds such as brown pelicans, blue herons, night herons, egrets, yellow warblers and hummingbirds. While snorkeling you may see spotted eagle rays, turtles, pufferfish, octopus, lobster, stingrays, parrotfish and much more!
What is included with the Cas Cay kayak rental?
Your self-guided kayak rental includes a stable sit-on-top ocean kayak with a backrest and paddle, a life jacket, and bottled water. If you’d like, our team can provide basic paddling tips and help you plan your route to make the most of your time on the water.
What should I bring for the Cas Cay self-guided kayak rental?
Wear a bathing suit and bring a towel, along with lightweight clothing that can get wet. Sun protection is important, so pack a hat, sunglasses, and reef-safe sunscreen. Water shoes or sandals with a strap around the heel are recommended for ease while getting in and out of your kayak.
Where does the Cas Cay kayak rental take place?
This kayak rental launches from the Mangrove Lagoon on the east end of St. Thomas. You’ll paddle through protected waters surrounded by lush mangroves, with the freedom to explore scenic areas like Bird Island and Cas Cay at your own pace.
Are there restrooms or changing areas at the Mangrove Lagoon in St. Thomas?
Yes. Before or after your Cas Cay kayak tour, you’ll have access to restrooms, dressing rooms, and lockers at our launch site near the Mangrove Lagoon in St. Thomas. These facilities are available to help make your experience easy and comfortable.
Do you offer private tours?
Yes! You can now upgrade any eligible tour to a private experience for just a $99 flat fee. This “Private Tour Upgrade” can be selected during online checkout—just look for the Flat Fee – Private Tour Upgrade option when booking your tour. Private tours are available any day except Wednesdays.

What is your cancellation policy?
Your booking is fully refundable if canceled at least 24 hours before your tour.
Cancellations made within 24 hours of the tour start time or no-shows are non-refundable.
Tours operate rain or shine (with the exception of lightning). In the rare case that weather prevents us from running the tour, we will gladly provide a full refund.
