Top 5 USVI Day Charter Boat Stops

January 1, 2022

In the past, the great majority of boating days that started in the US Virgin Islands headed straight over to the British Virgin Islands. It’s a lot of fun to cross over an invisible territory line and explore a different country, all within one day out on the water. And for many years, the BVI has really excelled in providing a variety of easily accessible beach bars geared towards boaters – something the USVI has featured notably less of.

However, things have changed in 2020 due to the pandemic. There haven’t been a ton of silver linings this year, we’ll be honest. Covid travel guidelines have made crossing over to the BVI for the day a challenge. But one shift worth celebrating is the increasing abundance of USVI boating stops. Our territory now has so many cool beach & floating bars to check out, you’ll need more than one boating day to see them all!

The next time you’re planning a day charter or weeklong sailing charter in the USVI, be sure to hit up some of our favorite spots:

1) Bikinis on the Beach Bar & Grill at Honeymoon Beach, St. John

This one is a shameless plug (yup, that’s us!). But, in our defense, we’d sure love to welcome you to our beach bar on your next boat trip! Mooring balls can be found in front of Honeymoon Beach, and you’re welcome to swim or dinghy in. Our bar & grill are open daily, serving up fresh beach fare and tropical drink favorites such as margaritas, Painkillers, daiquiris, local beer, and more. Also available on the beach are water sports gear + tours, chairs, hammocks, and cabanas. We’re open daily and are featuring LIVE MUSIC all winter season.

2) Pizza Pi VI at Christmas Cove

This floating pizza bar is located in the protected bay of Christmas Cove – the perfect spot for a snorkel stop followed by a slice of the most delicious pizza you’ll have in the Virgin Islands. Pro tip: the Madd Mushroom is our fav.

3) Lime Out at Coral Harbor, St. John

A floating taco bar – need we say more? This new addition to the St. John scene is only accessible by boat and an excellent stop for floating and limin’ in the crystal clear waters.

4) Dinghy’s Beach Bar & Grill at Honeymoon Beach, Water Island

Water Island is a must-see in the USVI – it’s a small, residential island with a community you’ll wish you were a part of. Grab some food and drinks with your toes in the sand and enjoy their abundant beach amenities.

5) Zozo’s at Caneel Bay, St. John

Having just recently reopened at Caneel, Zozo’s is a fantastic option if you’re looking for something a bit higher end. Their fresh, seafood dishes are delicious. The best part? We’re neighbors, so you’re welcome to ride our shuttle between Zozo’s and Honeymoon Beach for a duel pit stop.

The north shore of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is one of those rare places that manages to feel both untouched and well-known. Stretching along the island’s Caribbean-facing coastline, this region is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world—and it’s easy to see why. You can’t visit St. John without spending time on it. In fact, it’s probably the most popular reason why people visit St. John. ( Who among us hasn’t been lured into STJ dreaming by one of those iconic photos of Trunk Bay? ) However, there is so much to see and experience along the north shore. You likely will not be able to do it all on your first trip here. Here’s what to know about the north shore of St. John:

If you’ve been to St. John in the US Virgin Islands, you’ve likely encountered the wild donkeys around the island. Whether they approached you on the beach, strolled up to your Jeep’s window, or clip-clopped alongside you while shopping in Mongoose Junction, you were likely charmed by the presence of such a surprising farm animal on our little island. Because we’ve been posting a bunch of fun donkey videos lately over on our Facebook and Instagram accounts (if you’re not already following us, be sure to go and join in on the fun!), we thought we’d share a few fun details about the island’s donkey population.
