While the US Virgin Islands are known for their incredible hiking opportunities, one hike in particular frequently flies under the radar – and yet it’s one we think should be on the top of everyone’s must-hike list! if you haven’t hiked Cas Cay yet, here are 5 reasons why you should add this remarkable hike to your next VI vacation itinerary.
There are a variety of ways to take in Cas Cay once you land your kayak on the shore. There is a shallow beach and a mostly flat trail along the base of the island. And for those feeling more adventurous, there are dramatic rocks to climb around and tide pools to explore. This means that everyone in your group will have a space they can traverse that they feel comfortable hiking.
From the top of Cay Cay, you get a beautiful view of the Caribbean sea and surrounding islands. The craggy rocks also make for a breathtaking backdrop for your photos – especially if the volcanic blowhole is frothing when you’re there.
This little cay is protected and home to a diverse array of plants and animals. That makes it an ideal spot to take in our Virgin Island’s natural landscape and learn more about the purposes they serve in the larger ecosystem.
Because the cay is only accessible via the water, it makes it more of an adventure than simply driving to another hike. Our base is located in the Mangrove Lagoon, so our kayaks are the ideal transport to Cas Cay. On the way there, you’ll take in the views of St. Thomas from the water, and meander through the thriving mangroves.
Cas Cay is located just outside the Mangrove Lagoon, which is a protected safe harbor for an abundance of marine life. After hiking around the island, it feels fantastic to don a snorkel + mask and swim around the shallows surrounding Cas Cay.
