Your USVI Rental Car Guide

rental car guide for the USVI

When coming to visit the US Virgin Islands, many opt to rent a car – and for very good reason. Taxis can be expensive, and it’s always nice to have your own transportation, available where and when it’s convenient for you. Most taxis charge their fares per person, so a rental car can also be very cost effective when you’re traveling as a group.

A couple of things to keep in mind when renting a car in the USVI:

  • We drive on the left hand side of the road, but the cars are standard American left side drive, not right hand drive, as you might expect.
  • The most popular cars to rent are Jeep Wranglers, though you can find other options. Most rental car companies will not allow you to take the Jeep tops off though, as it rains sporadically, in random bursts, here in the tropics.
  • Many, if not most, companies will not allow you to take your rental car between the two islands. If you have that desire/intention, we recommend that you check with your chosen rental agency BEFORE booking your reservations.

Here’s our list, in no particular order, of the rental car agencies you have to choose from. They’re listed by island. Please note that we don’t have any special partnerships or affiliation with any of the companies listed. We just wanted to provide an easy, go-to resource for those searching for a rental car when coming to visit us. If you have any questions related to the rental car terms, we recommend that you contact the individual companies directly.
