WHY MANGROVE KAYAKING IS A MUST-DO WHEN YOU’RE ON ST. THOMAS

If you’re looking for unique things to do while you’re on the island of St. Thomas, we definitely recommend that you take some time to explore beyond the beach. Sure, the USVI are home to some of the most spectacular beaches you’ll ever visit, but there is also a lot more to see that’s not just white sand. One don’t-miss activity we think you should add to your Virgin Islands bucket list? Mangrove kayaking.

We recently published a post called, “What’s Unique About Snorkeling in the Mangroves,” if you’d like more details on what’s below the surface. But for anyone not interested in snorkeling, or for anyone curious about the topside of the Mangrove Lagoon, kayaking is an excellent way to check it out.

We rent kayaks for you to head into the lagoon on your own, or you can join one of our expert guides on a tour through the mangroves.

Mangrove kayaking is accessible to everyone. Guests young and old can hop into a kayak, even if it’s their first time. Our team will provide instruction and our kayaks are easy to maneuver for beginners. Plus, the Mangrove Lagoon is a protected space, so you won’t have to worry about navigating waves or strong currents.

Kayaking in the mangroves feels like you’re in an untouched area of St. Thomas. Because it is a protected ecosystem, you’ll be gently weaving your way between the trees in the calm, quiet atmosphere. Many animals call the Mangrove Lagoon home. Above the surface, your guides will help you spot and identify all kinds of island creatures from sea birds, to crabs, to lizards, and more.

You can join us to kayak in the mangroves during the day, at sunset, or even at night during a full moon. Each experience is unique because of the way the flora and fauna changes, depending on the time of day.

We look forward to showing you around one of our absolute favorite places in the US Virgin Islands. Grab a kayak, and let’s go!
